Spicy Tteokbokki With Fish Cakes

Spicy Tteokbokki With Fish Cakes
Tteokbokki is one of those dishes you turn to whenever you need comfort in a bowl. The chewy rice cakes, our spicy-sweet sauce for Tteokbokki (mild or spicy), and the soft fish cakes create a warmth that instantly lifts my mood and reminds me of vibrant Seoul street stalls. This version is balanced: gentle heat, a touch of sweetness, and the freshness of green onions on top. It’s simple, satisfying, and brings a bit of Korean street-food magic straight into your kitchen.
Ingredients
Servings: 2 Prep I Time: 5 minutes I Cook Time: 12 minutes
- 200 g Korean rice cakes (tteok), soaked in water for 10 minutes
- 250 ml water
- 3 tbsp Bibap Manufacture Spicy Tteokbokki Sauce
- 1 small handful of Korean fish cakes Odeng (오뎅) or Eomuk (어묵), sliced
- 1 stalk green onion, chopped
- Optional: boiled egg or sesame seeds for garnish

Preparation
- We begin by soaking the rice cakes in warm water for about ten to fifteen minutes if they are firm or have been in the fridge. This softens them slightly and helps them cook more evenly later.
- Next, we add water or anchovy broth to a pan and bring it to a gentle simmer. We stir in the Bibap Manufacture Spicy Tteokbokki Sauce until it blends fully with the broth and forms a smooth, rich base.
- When the sauce is ready, we add the softened rice cakes and let them cook for a few minutes, stirring now and then so they do not stick to the bottom. After five to seven minutes, they begin to soften and absorb the heat of the sauce.
- We then slice the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces and add them to the pan. We let everything simmer until the sauce thickens and coats the rice cakes and fish cakes in a glossy layer.
- In the last minute of cooking, we add the chopped spring onions. They bring a fresh aroma and a little brightness to the dish.
- We serve the tteokbokki hot, sometimes with a sprinkle of sesame seeds or a boiled egg on top for extra richness. It is warm, comforting, and full of the classic spicy-sweet flavor we love.
